5 tips to get the most out of your deck:

  1. Keep the deck and any steps cleaned of dirt. It is wise to use a specialist deck cleaner at least once a year to remove any mould and moss.
  2. Regularly check you timber deck for any signs of rotting, mildew or termite activity. if you are able to push a screwdriver over 5mm into a decking board through the wood, it may be rotting and we recommend it be replaced.
  3. As the timber ages, check all timber boards and handrails thoroughly for any splintering. Sand back any splintering as needed.
  4. Maintain your deck colour by using a good quality sealant with a UV sunlight protector. We can help recommend products for you. A good rule of thumb would be to use a sealant once per year.
  5. Move any furniture and pot plants at every few months, ensuring that you check the wood underneath. Potted plants can leave staining beneath so be careful to use trays underneath to capture any excess water.
